Ridge Copse

A proper woodland walk near Yeovil, Ridge Copse delivers exactly what you want from a Somerset forest without any fuss. The trees are mature and thick enough to give you genuine shade, which matters more than you'd think on a warm day. Paths wind through reasonably, though they can get boggy after rain so wear decent boots.

It's the sort of place that works best for families with younger kids or anyone after an hour's woodland amble rather than a full day out. The space isn't vast, so you won't get lost, and there's something oddly restorative about being among proper old growth without the crowds you'd find at bigger forest attractions. On a quiet weekday morning it feels almost private.

If you're staying at Long Hazel Park just down the road - it's barely half a mile away - this makes a sensible addition to a caravan holiday without requiring much planning. You can knock out a walk before lunch, grab a coffee back at the site. Hadspen Glamping is further out at just over five miles, so less convenient for a quick visit, but still within reach for an evening stroll.

No facilities to speak of that I could find, so bring water and don't expect a tearoom. The real appeal is straightforward: woodland, quiet, close to town. Worth it if you're in the area, but don't go out of your way specially. It's the sort of place that slots nicely into a broader Somerset trip rather than standing as a destination itself.
