Rivey Hill

The highest point in Cambridgeshire is, frankly, a bit of an anticlimax. Rivey Hill tops out at 128 metres - barely a bump in the landscape - but if you're after genuine high ground in the Fens, this is legitimately it. The walk up takes minutes rather than hours, which is either a blessing or a disappointment depending on your mood.

What you get is a modest vantage point with views across the Cambridgeshire countryside towards Cambridge. On a clear day you can make out the city's colleges and spires, which is the real draw here rather than any dramatic fell-walking experience. It's the kind of place where the achievement is more about the fact than the spectacle.

History types might find it mildly interesting - there's an old Roman settlement nearby - but walkers expecting serious elevation gain will be let down. Children will probably tire of it within thirty minutes unless you make it part of a longer ramble. Locals use it as a convenient afternoon outing, and that's honestly the best way to approach it.

Combine it with a stay at HappenOak Treehouse just 2 miles away if you want to keep the novelty going - it's proper quirky. Alternatively, Bounds C&CC is a short drive off and gives you a proper base for exploring Cambridge itself and the wider Fenland countryside. Rivey Hill works best as a bonus tick rather than a main event.
