It's ideal for walkers who want something gentle and undemanding. The paths are well-trodden but never feel crowded, and there's no gate or ticket booth - you simply show up and go. Allow an hour or so for a leisurely circuit, longer if you're the sort who stops to examine fungi and bird activity. Families with younger kids will find it manageable, though there's little to grab their attention beyond "let's jump in that puddle" territory.

If you're already staying in the Oxford area and fancy a proper forest fix rather than tramping round more famous spots, this delivers without fuss. Winter's actually when it's most atmospheric - fewer people, lower light, and the trees properly skeletal against grey skies. Worth the detour if you're in the region, but not worth driving for on its own.
