Rocky Pot

Rocky Pot isn't a destination that'll take your breath away the moment you arrive, but step inside and you're in proper caving territory. It's a natural cave system near Settle, the kind of place where you need a torch and a sense of adventure rather than just a camera and comfortable shoes. The cave itself is modest - you're crawling through limestone passages with water running beneath your feet, not traversing vast underground chambers. It's genuinely atmospheric though, especially when your torch catches the mineral formations on the walls.

This is squarely for the caving enthusiast rather than casual visitors. If your idea of a cave visit is standing in a gift shop at the bottom of some tourist trap, you'll find Rocky Pot underwhelming. If you actually enjoy getting muddy and navigating tight passages, it's worth the effort. Families with older kids who don't mind confined spaces might manage it, but younger ones will likely find it claustrophobic and pointless.

Access is straightforward from Settle - it's not a major tourist trap, so you won't battle queues. Allow a couple of hours including the walk to the entrance and time to explore without rushing. The Yorkshire Dales location means you're brilliantly positioned for a wider park holiday. Ribblesdale Pods and Malham Glamping Pods are both within easy striking distance, giving you proper accommodation while you tackle the region's limestone caves and walking trails. Summer is the best time - winter floods can make access dodgy.
