Roll of Honour

The Roll of Honour in Hope Valley is a sobering memorial to the local men who died in the First World War. It's the kind of thing you might walk past without thinking much about it, but stopping to read the names - carved into stone, each one a person - hits differently once you're actually there.

Pop in for ten minutes while you're in the area rather than making a special trip. The nearby caravan parks - Castleton Caravan and Motorhome Club is barely half a mile away - make it easy to base yourself here for a few days and explore properly. Derbyshire Hills Campsite, three and a half miles out, gives you more breathing room if you want something quieter.

Free to visit, no opening hours to worry about - it's a public memorial. Go early morning or late afternoon if you want peace and decent light for photographs.
