The squat stone church sitting just inland from Bude's seafront is harder to miss than you'd think, given how many tourists barrel straight for the beach. Saint Peter's is a proper working Catholic church, and stepping inside feels like walking into someone's living room - it's intimate, unshowy, and genuinely welcoming in a way that makes you slow down.

What you get here is straightforward: a small, well-maintained church with solid Victorian architecture and the kind of quiet that actually matters when you're on holiday. There's no gift shop, no audio tour, no performance. Just the space itself, the light through the windows, and occasionally the sound of someone praying. It's the sort of place history nerds and anyone after a moment's peace will genuinely appreciate, though families with small children won't linger long - there's not much to occupy them beyond the building itself.

No charge to visit, and you can spend as long as you like in there. Twenty minutes is probably about right unless you're really into church architecture. The real value here is as a breather during a Bude holiday - pop in between beach sessions or a walk around town. It works as a contrast to the seaside chaos, especially if you're staying at Wooda Farm Holiday Park just down the road, which is one of the better-maintained sites in the area. Atlantic Surf Pods is closer but rather more basic. Either way, this church is the kind of small-town touchstone that gives a seaside trip some actual texture.
