The Rose Garden near Scarborough is a proper treat if you're staying at one of the nearby holiday parks around Cayton Bay or Filey. It's the sort of place that rewards a gentle afternoon stroll - rows of hybrid tea roses, floribundas, and climbers in full bloom make for a colorful break from the coast.

What makes it worthwhile is the concentration. You're not wandering vast grounds here; instead, the roses are well-organized, and on a decent day you can see the lot in under an hour. The scent in peak season (June through September) is genuinely lovely, and it's quiet enough that you won't battle crowds like you would at bigger attractions. Families with young children might find it a bit narrow in appeal - there's not much to do beyond looking and sniffing - but if you've got anyone keen on gardening, or you just fancy a peaceful hour away from the caravan site, it's worth the short drive from Cayton Bay.

Go mid-week if you can, and time it for late morning when the light hits the beds nicely. The nearest towns - Scarborough itself and smaller Filey - have all the facilities, so you can easily combine this with a coastal day out. It's not a destination in itself, but as part of a park holiday in the area, it fills a gap when the weather's decent and you want something low-key.
