Round Plantation

Round Plantation sits just outside Llanfairpwllgwyngyll on Anglesey - a proper forest walk rather than a destination in itself, but worth knowing about if you're based at Tŷ Croes Farm & Vineyard Campsite nearby. The woodland is dense and atmospheric, the sort of place where you actually feel tucked away from the world rather than just pretending to be.

There's nothing fancy here - no visitor centre, no tearoom, no Instagram moment waiting to happen. What you get is a straightforward woodland trail through mixed trees, decent enough underfoot even when it's been wet. The canopy does its job properly, so it's worth visiting on a drizzly day when everywhere else feels bleak.

It's best suited to walkers wanting an easy hour in the woods, maybe with younger children who need something less demanding than the coastal paths Anglesey does so well. Families won't get bored - there's enough to explore - but they won't be blown away either. This is the sort of walk you do because you're already in the area, not because you've driven specially.

The real appeal is the proximity to the campsite. If you're staying locally and need a quick leg-stretch without heading towards the busy tourist spots, this works. Free access almost certainly, though it pays to check locally. Go early morning if you can - the light through the trees is better, and you'll have it to yourself. Allow an hour maximum unless you're the type who stops to examine moss.
