RSPB Marazion Marsh

The marsh stretches out flat and wide near Longrock, a proper haven for anyone serious about spotting birds. You're looking at reed beds, open water, and scrubby vegetation - exactly what wading birds and warblers want. Bring binoculars and patience. This is an RSPB reserve, so the whole point is observation. Spring and autumn are your best bets for migrating species; winter brings wildfowl in decent numbers.

Walkers and twitchers will get far more from this than casual visitors after a quick photo. The paths are flat and accessible, which means families with younger kids or anyone who struggles with hills can actually manage it. Allow a couple of hours if you're serious about it, or half an hour if you're just passing through. The viewing areas aren't fancy - wooden platforms and hides - but that's by design. You're here to watch nature, not to be entertained.

Free to visit, as RSPB reserves usually are. Longrock itself is small, so you'll likely be basing yourself elsewhere - Polmanter Touring Park and Haven Riviere Sands are both within striking distance if you're doing a wider Cornwall trip. Don't expect dramatic scenery or a destination that'll occupy a full day. But if you're staying nearby and enjoy birdwatching, it's absolutely worth the visit. The light across the water at dusk is genuinely lovely.
