Run Free Dog Fields - South Queensferry

The fields just off the Newbridge road are exactly what they say on the tin - wide open space where your dog can actually run without a lead. South Queensferry's got plenty of dog walkers and this spot near Newbridge is the reason why. You get proper open grassland, not some fenced-in postage stamp, and on a decent day it's genuinely pleasant for a proper walk yourself.

The appeal is straightforward. If you're staying at Green Oak Nature Retreat nearby, this is ideal for burning off dog energy without the constant anxiety of recall training. The fields are uncluttered, which matters more than you'd think - no play equipment, no crowds, just grass. It's the kind of place where you can actually let your dog do what dogs need to do, and you can walk at your own pace without negotiating prams or cyclists.

For families with dogs it's a solid hour's outing, maybe ninety minutes if you're taking the long way round. Worth timing it for late afternoon when the light's better and fewer people are about, though frankly any time works if you're not fussed about solitude.
