Sammy Miller Museum

Two-wheeled history comes alive at this extraordinary collection just outside New Milton, where motorcycle legend Sammy Miller has assembled what many consider Britain's finest display of classic bikes. Spanning over a century of motorcycling evolution, the museum houses everything from Victorian bone-shakers to grand prix racers that Miller himself rode to victory in the 1960s.

Motorcycle enthusiasts will be in absolute heaven here. Miller's own championship-winning bikes take centre stage, but the real treat is the breadth of the collection - from humble commuter bikes to exotic Italian racers that cost more than most houses. Even non-bikers find themselves drawn in by the stories behind these mechanical marvels.

Families with older children who appreciate engineering will get plenty from a visit, though toddlers might lose interest fairly quickly. The displays are well-presented with plenty of background on each machine's racing pedigree or historical significance. The museum makes an excellent rainy day alternative to New Forest walks, and you're only twenty minutes from the coast if the weather brightens up.
