Scalford Gorse

The gorse scrub at Scalford feels more like a secret than a proper attraction - which is exactly why it's worth seeking out if you're camped at The Grange nearby. It's a modest expanse of golden gorse and open heathland on the edge of Melton Mowbray's countryside, the kind of place that catches fire with colour in late spring when the gorse blooms bright yellow.

You won't find visitor facilities or marked trails here. What you get instead is space to roam, scrappy woodland edges, and the genuine rural Midlands without the fuss. Walkers get the most from it - there are proper routes through and around the site if you know where to look, and it connects well with the broader footpath network around the area. The terrain's manageable, nothing steep, though it can get boggy after rain.
