Seagar Hill

Climbing up from the Wye Valley near Hereford, this modest hill offers surprisingly decent views across the Herefordshire countryside without requiring serious hiking boots. The summit sits at a gentle 200-odd metres, making it a proper family-friendly walk that won't have the kids complaining after twenty minutes.

Walkers with young children will find the gradual ascent manageable, though don't expect anything dramatic at the top. The panorama takes in the cathedral spires of Hereford below and rolling farmland stretching towards the Welsh borders, but it's hardly breathtaking. Still, on a clear day it's well worth the hour or so it takes to get up and back down.

What makes Seagar Hill work particularly well is its proximity to several holiday parks around Hereford. Families staying at Lucksall Caravan & Camping Park or any of the sites within a few miles can easily fit this into an afternoon, perhaps combining it with a trip into the cathedral city itself. The lack of any entrance fees or restrictions means you can turn up whenever suits, though early morning tends to be clearest for those views. It's not going to feature in any 'Best British Peaks' lists, but as a gentle leg-stretch with decent reward, it does the job nicely.
