Secret beach

You won't find signposts pointing to this stretch of sand near Sutherland - that's rather the point. The beach sits tucked away along the Highland coast, accessible if you know where to look and don't mind a bit of rough ground underfoot. Once you're there, it's genuinely quiet. No car parks, no facilities, no crowds working their way down a well-trodden path.

The beach itself is a proper cracking spot for anyone after solitude. Golden sand, rock pools that reward poking around, and the kind of views across the water that make the scramble worthwhile. Families with older kids will manage fine; anything younger and you'll want to weigh up whether the effort justifies the reward. Walkers absolutely thrive here - the approach is half the adventure, and there's real satisfaction in earning your patch of empty beach.

There's no entrance fee because there's no entrance. Bring your own supplies - you won't find a café or shop nearby. The best time is outside peak summer months when the weather's settled but the tourists haven't arrived.

From there you're positioned to explore this secret spot as part of a wider Highland coastal wander. Expect to spend a couple of hours minimum, though you could happily lose an afternoon here if the light's good.
