Located near Plymouth, it offers a genuine escape into Devon's quieter corners, with mature trees and enough paths to keep you occupied for a couple of hours without feeling crowded.

Walkers will find the most value here. The terrain isn't particularly challenging, so families with younger kids can manage it fine, though don't expect designated play areas or facilities - this is nature on its own terms. Bring wellies if it's been wet; the woodland floor can be boggy in places. Autumn's your best bet if you want colour, but honestly the wood has something going for it year-round.
