You won't find much standing here now - just a gentle depression in the Kent countryside near Tenterden where an ebony church once rose. The site itself is modest, a quiet archaeological location that speaks more through absence than presence. What draws people here is the sheer historical curiosity of it all: why ebony? Why here? And what happened to it?

This is proper territory for local history enthusiasts and archaeology buffs rather than casual walkers after a scenic stroll. You'll need to do some homework beforehand because there's precious little on the ground to explain what you're looking at. It's the kind of place that rewards research - once you understand the story, standing in the field takes on real weight.

If you're based at one of the nearby glamping sites - Wheatfields or Wildside are both excellent - this works as a thoughtful detour rather than a main attraction. Tenterden itself is worth half a day, with proper shops and decent pubs, so you could combine a visit here with exploring the market town properly.

Best approached as part of a broader Kent ramble rather than a destination in itself. Allow an hour if you're genuinely interested in the archaeology, less if you just want to say you've been. There's no visitor infrastructure that I'm aware of, so bring a map, sensible shoes, and ideally some knowledge of what you're looking for. It's quiet, it's genuine, and it rewards the effort.
