Sitwell Park Golf Course

An 18-hole course on the outskirts of Rotherham, Sitwell Park is a solid test for golfers of all abilities. Nothing fancy here - just well-maintained greens, tree-lined fairways, and the sort of no-nonsense Yorkshire golf that gets the job done. The layout demands accuracy off the tee rather than length, which means even average players can score reasonably. It's the kind of place where you'll see the same faces week in, week out, the sort of club that takes itself seriously without being pretentious about it.

This is one for golfers, obviously. Non-golfers will find about an hour of entertainment watching, max, unless they're genuinely keen on the game. If you're staying at Hooton Lodge Farm or Waleswood Caravan & Camping Park - both within five miles - and you're a golfer, it's absolutely worth a morning round. The course plays nicely in late spring and autumn when the ground firms up.

You'll want to ring ahead to book a tee time and check current rates. Allow around four and a half hours for a full round if you're not rushing. Rother Valley Country Park, just over five miles away, makes a natural addition to a golf trip if your playing partner wants something different - you get walking, fishing, water sports, all in one visit. It's not a destination course that'll have you making a special trip from Sheffield or Manchester, but if you're based locally or staying in a nearby caravan park, it's exactly what you're after.
