Sodhall Hill

The walk up Sodhall Hill from Shipley doesn't take long, but it's steep enough to make your thighs remember it afterwards. Once you're up there, the views across West Yorkshire stretch far enough to justify the huff and puff - you can see proper distance on a clear day, with the Pennines rolling away to one side and the valleys below stitched together like a patchwork.

It's the kind of spot that appeals to serious walkers wanting a quick leg-stretcher rather than a full day out. An hour up and down, maybe ninety minutes if you're taking photos or stopping to catch your breath. Kids will either love the scramble to the summit or find it a bit of a slog depending on their mood - bring a snack and make it worth their while.

If you're camped at Esholt Holiday Caravan Park or Clarion Lodge, both within striking distance, this is an easy morning walk that gets you out without needing to drive anywhere. Moor Valley Country Park is also close by if you want something gentler to pair with it - do one in the morning, the other after lunch. The ground can get muddy even days after rain, so proper footwear matters. There's no visitor centre or café at the top, just the view and the quiet. That's rather the point.
