St Bartholomew's Church

The church sits right in the heart of Bodmin, all grey stone and proper Cornish character. St Bartholomew's is what you'd call a working parish church - still very much used by the local community, which means you'll find it genuinely lived-in rather than locked behind velvet ropes.

Inside, there's decent medieval architecture if you're into that sort of thing, and the kind of quiet you don't get anywhere else these days. It won't keep you for hours - twenty minutes covers it properly - but it's exactly the sort of place worth ducking into if you're already in Bodmin town centre. The stone work is proper, and there's something satisfying about seeing how these buildings have just carried on doing their job for centuries.

Families with restless kids might find it a bit dull unless they're genuinely interested in old churches. Walkers passing through town, though, should certainly have a look. It's free to visit (as these things usually are), and there's no complicated opening hours nonsense - just check the door when you're in town.

If you're staying at one of the nearby parks - Eden Valley is closest at 1.4 miles - it makes for a sensible stop when you're exploring Bodmin itself. Par Sands and Mena Farm are further out but still within striking distance if you're planning a day trip into town. It's not a drawcard in itself, but as part of a broader Bodmin wander, it absolutely earns the five minutes.
