St Charles Borromeo R C Church

The red brick Victorian façade of St Charles Borromeo sits quietly on the edge of Warwick, a proper statement of 19th-century Catholic ambition in what was then very much Protestant territory. Inside, the church opens up with genuine grandeur - high ceilings, ornate details, and that particular light that comes through older stained glass. It's the sort of place that rewards a slow wander rather than a quick tick-off.

This is genuinely worth visiting if you're into church architecture or religious history. The Victorians didn't do understated, and it shows here. You'll spend a good half hour properly looking around without feeling rushed, though twenty minutes is the bare minimum if you're just passing through on a loop from Warwick town centre.

The church remains active, so opening times depend on services and community use - it's worth ringing ahead or checking locally once you're at Green Gates Caravan and Motorhome Site or any of the other parks dotted around the area. Admission is free, which is exactly as it should be.

Paired with a wander around Warwick's castle and the town's medieval streets, St Charles slots in nicely without feeling like dead time between bigger attractions. It's close enough to Stratford-upon-Avon Lodge Retreat and Twitey's Camping that you could easily visit as part of a broader Warwickshire loop, though fair warning - it's a church, not a playground, so young kids might struggle with the pace.
