Dense woodland paths wind through this little-known forest just outside Newquay, where ancient oaks and towering pines create proper cathedral-like spaces overhead. St Endor Wood feels refreshingly wild compared to Cornwall's more manicured coastal attractions - muddy boots are practically mandatory here.

Families with energetic children will find plenty to explore, though the uneven terrain and tree roots make pushchairs a non-starter. The woodland's network of informal trails means you can easily spend two hours here if the kids are keen on den-building and stick-collecting. Dog walkers absolutely love it - there's space to roam and streams to splash in.

No facilities here whatsoever, so come prepared with drinks and snacks. The lack of signage adds to the adventure but means keeping younger ones close - it's easy enough to get turned around among the similar-looking paths.

If you're staying at one of the nearby holiday parks like Hendra or White Acres, this makes a lovely contrast to beach days. The wood's proximity to Newquay means you could combine a morning walk here with afternoon seaside activities. Best avoided after heavy rain when the clay paths become properly slippery. It's one of those spots that rewards the effort - genuine woodland tranquillity just minutes from Cornwall's busy tourist trail.
