St Gallgo's Church

The graveyard at St Gallgo's sits quiet and overgrown on the outskirts of Marianglas, a small village on Anglesey's east coast. The church itself is modest - a simple stone building that speaks more to practicality than grandeur, the sort of place where generations of islanders have marked their major life moments without fuss.

What draws people here now is mostly curiosity. The church has genuine medieval bones, though it's been heavily restored, and the burial ground holds some interesting older stones if you're into reading weathered inscriptions. The surrounding landscape is genuinely lovely - open fields rolling toward the coast - so it's less about the building itself and more about the sense of place. Walkers exploring this part of Anglesey often stumble across it, and it's worth a twenty-minute poke around if you're in the area.

Historians and church architecture types will find more to interest them than casual visitors. Families on a caravan holiday at one of the nearby parks - Home Farm is barely half a mile away, or Cae Mawr just a touch further - won't find their kids gripped for long, but it's a reasonable free stop if you're already exploring the lanes around Marianglas. The churchyard itself is accessible, though there's no visitor centre or facilities to speak of.

Go when the light's good, late afternoon especially. Early morning works too. Avoid school holidays if you want peace.
