St George's Church Methwold

The church sits right in the heart of Methwold village, a 14th-century flint structure that stops you short with its sheer presence. St George's is one of Norfolk's finest examples of Perpendicular Gothic architecture - all soaring windows and intricate tracery that somehow survived centuries of Norfolk weather.

Inside, the roof is the real showstopper. The hammerbeam ceiling is genuinely worth craning your neck for, with carved angels and ornate detailing that speaks to real craftwork. The chancel and nave are spacious in that way old Norfolk churches often are, with decent light flooding through the windows. There's a particular beauty to entering on a grey afternoon when the flint walls seem to glow.
