St George's Deal

St George's Church sits right in the heart of Deal, a proper seafront town that's seen better days but still has charm. The building itself is a solid piece of English parish church architecture - nothing flashy, just honest stonework and the kind of interior you'd expect from a place that's been doing its job for centuries. Walk in and you get the usual suspects: wooden pews, stained glass that catches the light nicely, and that particular smell of old wood and stone that never gets old.

It's the sort of stop that works best if you're already wandering Deal's high street rather than a destination in itself. Twenty minutes inside, maybe another ten if you're into reading the memorial plaques and imagining the stories behind them. Church history enthusiasts will appreciate it; families with restless kids might find it a bit of a stretch. There's something quite moving about local parish churches though - they're where real people got married, got buried, came to terms with things.

Deal itself is only a few miles from several caravan parks - Kingsdown Camping's your closest at three miles, and Ham Hideaway Glamping is barely further. If you're based at one of these for a week's break in Kent, St George's is an easy leg-stretch while you're grabbing a coffee or fish and chips. Free entry, and it's open during standard church hours - though it's worth checking locally when you arrive as these places sometimes lock up outside service times. Worth twenty minutes of your time if you're passing through.
