St John's Church : Sewerby

The church sits on a slight rise overlooking the village of Sewerby, just outside Bridlington, and it's one of those places that rewards a short detour if you're camping nearby. St John's is a proper Yorkshire church - solid, unpretentious, and honestly more interesting inside than the exterior suggests. The nave dates back centuries, and there's enough medieval stonework and Victorian restoration to keep anyone who actually enjoys architecture engaged for twenty minutes or so.

It's not a showstopper like some of the grander coastal churches you'll find along this stretch, but that's rather the point. This is a working parish church in a small village, and it feels genuine. The churchyard itself is pleasant enough for a wander, particularly if you've got kids who need to burn off energy between caravan activities.

If you're staying at one of the holiday parks within striking distance - Bridlington Caravan and Motorhome Club is barely a mile away, or Haven Thornwick Bay a bit further - St John's makes a sensible stop on a lazy afternoon. Pair it with a walk around Sewerby itself or head into Bridlington proper for lunch. Don't expect to spend more than an hour here, and go in with realistic expectations about what a village church offers.
