St John's Church

St John's Church sits quietly on the edge of Stockbridge, a proper medieval structure that rewards a brief detour if you're camping in the area. The church itself is what you'd expect - stone walls, pointed arches, the whole package - but it's the sort of place where you pop in for fifteen minutes rather than plan your afternoon around.

What makes it worth a look is the genuinely interesting interior. There's decent medieval woodwork and some decent monuments if you're into that sort of thing. The churchyard is peaceful enough, and on a decent day it's a pleasant spot to wander around. It's the kind of visit that works best when you're already nearby - say, if you're staying at Mill Farm Glamping or Honey Bee Glamping just down the road.

Families with young kids won't find much to occupy them for long, but if you've got teenagers interested in history, or you're just after a quiet half-hour away from the campsite, it does the job. Being Wiltshire, it fits naturally into a broader walking or exploring day - the surrounding countryside is proper nice for a ramble.

Free to enter, open during daylight hours as far as most parish churches are. The nearest facilities are back in Stockbridge itself, so pop in while you're passing rather than making a special trip. It's solid rather than spectacular, but that's not always a bad thing.
