St Mary's sits quietly on the edge of Chippenham, one of those sturdy parish churches that barely registers on most visitors' radars but absolutely rewards a twenty-minute detour if you're camping nearby. The building itself is solid medieval work - proper Wiltshire stone and a tower that catches the light beautifully in late afternoon. Inside, there's decent stained glass and the sort of peaceful atmosphere you only get in churches that haven't been over-restored.

This is really a spot for anyone with even a passing interest in rural ecclesiastical architecture, or people who simply need ten minutes of genuine quiet while on holiday. It's the kind of place where you can sit in a pew and actually hear yourself think. No admission charge as far as I can tell, and you can usually just walk in during daylight hours, though it's worth checking locally if you're going out of your way.

If you're staying at Plough Lane or Roe Deer Fields - both just under two miles away - St Mary's makes a gentle morning walk rather than a driving excursion. Pair it with a wander through Chippenham's town centre and you've got a decent couple of hours without expending much energy. The Moors Campsite is equally close if you fancy something a touch less fussy than a full caravan park.

Don't expect crowds or visitor facilities. Just bring a camera if you care about that sort of thing, and leave it at that.
