St Peris, Nant Peris

The church sits in Nant Peris valley like something from a different century - because it largely is one. St Peris is a proper old Welsh place of worship, small and unassuming, with roots going back further than most visitors expect. The valley itself is the real draw: steep-sided, green, and genuinely quiet in a way that feels rare these days.

Inside, it's all stone and simplicity - narrow aisles, old timber, the kind of church where you can actually hear your own footsteps. There's no fanfare here, no gift shop, no roped-off sections. It's just a working church that's been standing witness to the valley for centuries. The setting matters more than any individual feature. You're surrounded by the mountains that made this place significant in the first place.

Histoy types will appreciate the medieval bones of it. Families with young kids might find it a bit sparse - there's not much to occupy them beyond the setting itself. Walkers, though, absolutely should visit. It slots perfectly into a Snowdon circuit or a longer Llanberis valley walk.

Caernarfon is the nearest proper town, though Llanberis is much closer for accommodation. Most of the local parks - Llanberis Touring Park, Snowdon View Holiday Park, Bryn Gloch - are within striking distance, making St Peris an easy add-on to a week in the area. It's free to visit, takes maybe twenty minutes inside, and honestly the walk to reach it is better than the interior itself. Worth the detour if you're already valley-bound.
