Stargazing Hare

The Stargazing Hare sits on the hillside above Port Talbot, a rather brilliant bronze sculpture of a hare caught mid-leap with its head tilted skyward. It's the kind of public art that stops you in your tracks - there's something genuinely moving about it, the way the sculptor has captured that moment of wonder.

You'll need to walk for it, which is the whole point really. The path takes you up through decent countryside, and the views across Neath Port Talbot open up as you climb. The hare itself isn't massive - you're not talking about some monumental installation - but that's exactly why it works. It feels intimate, personal, like you've stumbled onto something the locals actually care about rather than something built for tourists.

The sculpture appeals most to walkers and anyone with a bit of patience for slower travel. Kids might find the walk a slog, though they'll probably enjoy spotting it once they're there. The real joy is in the journey up and the reason for being there - to pause and look up at the night sky, same as the hare.

There's no visitor centre or facilities that we could find, so come prepared. It's free to visit, naturally. Allow a couple of hours including the walk from Port Talbot town centre.
