St.Breock Church

The churchyard sits on a gentle rise just outside Wadebridge, and stepping through the gate feels like arriving somewhere that's been quietly getting on with things for rather a long time. St Breock Church is a proper medieval structure - all grey stone and purposeful architecture - with a tower that commands views across the surrounding farmland. What strikes you immediately is how much older it feels than many Cornish parish churches, with roots stretching back to at least the 12th century.

Inside, the space is simple and luminous. There's a good Norman font, medieval carved stone, and windows that let in plenty of light without being showy about it. The pace of visitors is refreshingly unhurried - you'll find locals here more often than tour groups. Most people spend 20 to 30 minutes looking around properly, though you could be in and out in ten if you're just passing through.

It's worth combining with a park stay in the area - The Laurels is just over a mile away, and St Minver and Porthilly Beach are both within easy reach if you're based there.
