The woodland floor changes depending on season: carpet of bluebells in spring, decent fungi action come autumn, though summer's when families tend to show up most.

It's straightforward woodland rather than dramatic - no major vistas or ruins, just quiet paths winding through the trees. Walkers will get a proper outing here, somewhere between one and two hours depending on how you meander. With kids, you're looking at maybe ninety minutes before they start asking when you're leaving. The terrain's gentle enough that pushchairs work on the main paths, though you won't want proper hiking boots to explore properly.

The real value is being close to Swindon without actually being in Swindon.
