Stramshall park

The River Dove cuts through Stramshall Park like it owns the place - and honestly, it does. This nature reserve sits just outside Uttoxeter and offers proper woodland walks alongside waterside paths that feel genuinely tucked away from the main tourist drag. The park itself is free to access, which counts for something, and you're looking at a good hour to ninety minutes if you want to do the circuit without rushing.

What you get is fairly straightforward: mixed woodland, river walks, and the occasional burst of open grassland where you might spot waterfowl or the odd deer if you're quiet enough. It's the sort of place that appeals to proper walkers more than casual strollers - the paths are decent but unmanicured, which some will love and others will find a bit muddy underfoot depending on the season.

Families with older kids do well here; toddlers might find the uneven terrain frustrating. History types won't find much to chew on, but if you're into riverside ecology or just need a solid leg-stretcher between Uttoxeter and the surrounding area, it works. If you're staying at Field Head Farm or any of the glamping spots dotted around - Ashbourne Holidays, Walled Garden Pods, or Ecopod - Stramshall makes a decent morning or afternoon circuit. Nothing flashy, but genuine woodland with a proper river to justify the walk.
