The Barn Dog Field

Near Canterbury, there's a field that's become something of a talking point among locals and dog walkers - The Barn Dog Field. It's exactly what the name suggests: a proper open space where dogs can run loose without the usual lead restrictions, tucked away from the main sprawl of the city. The field itself is unremarkable in the way a good dog park should be - just grass, open sky, and room to move. What matters is what happens when you let your dog off: they bolt, they play, they come back exhausted and happy.

It's dog owners who'll get the most from this, obviously. Whether you're staying at Seasalter Holiday Park just five miles away or Seaview Holiday Park a touch further out, this is the sort of place to burn off some restless energy before heading back to your caravan or static. Even a couple of hours makes a difference to a cooped-up spaniel or a terrier going stir-crazy.

The practical truth is that this isn't a destination attraction - you don't plan a day around it. But if you're holidaying in the area with a dog and the weather's decent, a mid-morning visit before lunch saves you from boredom at the park. There's nothing fancy about it, which is rather the point. No facilities that I'm aware of, so bring water if it's warm. Close enough to Canterbury that you could combine it with a proper day out in the city itself.
