The Common

The Common in Kilgetty is one of those spaces that locals use constantly but visitors often walk straight past. It's an open stretch of grassland that gives the town its breathing room - the sort of place where you can actually see sky without buildings crowding in. On a clear day, the views across Pembrokeshire are proper decent, and the walks that branch off from here take you into some genuinely quiet corners of West Wales.

It works best for families with kids who need to burn energy, or walkers using it as a starting point rather than a destination in itself. An hour here is plenty, unless you're the type to sit on a bench with a flask and watch the world. The real value is that it's free and requires no planning - rock up anytime and it's there.

If you're staying at one of the caravan parks scattered nearby - The Buttles is practically on the doorstep, or Trees and Sunnyvale Holiday Park over in Saundersfoot - The Common is your relief valve on days when you don't fancy a full-blown attraction. Pop into Kilgetty town centre afterwards for a bite. It's not going to be the highlight of your Pembrokeshire trip, but as a morning stroll before heading somewhere bigger, it does the job without fuss.
