The Dip

The Dip is one of those places where the landscape just drops away beneath your feet without warning. From Haverfordwest it's a straightforward drive, though you'll want a decent map or GPS because the approach roads are narrow and easy to miss.

What you're actually looking at is a geological oddity - a steep-sided dip in the terrain that gives you sightlines most coastal viewpoints can't match. On a clear day, visibility stretches across the countryside in all directions. It's walker territory primarily. The walk down into the dip itself isn't arduous, but it's steep enough that trainers beat shoes, and the ground can be boggy depending on rainfall. Allow an hour if you want to actually descend and explore rather than just stand at the rim photographing it.

Historically minded visitors will find the landscape itself tells the story - glacial carving, ancient land use patterns, the way the valley bottom still channels water. Families with young kids might find it underwhelming after ten minutes; there's no visitor facility, no cafe, no obvious activity beyond looking. But walkers heading between Beachside Glamping Dale or Point Farm Campsite will find it a worthwhile detour that adds another dimension to a Pembrokeshire countryside walk. The real appeal is solitude and uninterrupted views - go early morning or late afternoon to avoid the midday crowds from Haverfordwest.
