The Grange

The Grange is a proper woodland walk just outside Driffield, the sort of place that rewards you for turning off the main road without demanding hours of your time. You get mixed forest - decent mix of broadleaf and conifers - with trails that wind through without being overly manicured. The canopy's thick enough that it feels genuinely isolated even though you're minutes from town.

It's best for walkers after a decent leg-stretch rather than families after an afternoon activity. Kids will manage an hour or so, especially if they're the exploring type, but there's no facilities or playground to speak of. The trails themselves are manageable underfoot most of the time, though winter rain does turn sections boggy.

Worth timing your visit for early morning or late afternoon when the light cuts through the trees properly - midday it can feel a bit gloomy. Free access, as far as the local chatter goes, and you can knock out a decent circuit in ninety minutes without rushing.

If you're staying at Mill Farm Country Park a few miles away, The Grange makes an easy morning or evening detour. It's the sort of woodland that won't blow your mind but does exactly what it says on the tin - proper breathing space without the crowds you'd find at bigger estates. Real value if you're already in the area rather than a reason to travel specially.
