The Lost City Adventure Golf

Adventure golf courses are ten-a-penny these days, but The Lost City near Beverley actually delivers something with a bit of personality. The theming is properly done - crumbling temples, overgrown ruins, the sort of set dressing that doesn't look like it was ordered from a catalogue. You wind your way through eighteen holes of tropical decay, which sounds daft but works.

It's the kind of place where families with kids aged five to fifteen will actually have fun rather than just tolerating it. Adults won't feel embarrassed playing either, which is more than you can say for most mini-golf venues. The difficulty scales reasonably - some holes are gettable, others have genuine challenge. Expect to spend ninety minutes for a leisurely round, less if you're quick.

If you're based at Manor Farm Camping just down the road, this makes a brilliant afternoon option. Beverley itself is worth an hour or two wandering about - the town centre's proper handsome - but Lost City breaks things up nicely without eating a whole day. Go mid-week if you can; weekends tend to get rammed with birthday parties.

The course handles the weather reasonably well, though you might get damp feet after heavy rain. Summer school holidays are obviously manic, so aim for shoulder season if you're trying to avoid queues. It won't change your life, but it's well-executed fun.
