The Parish Church of Saint Peter Mevagissey

The stone church sits right in Mevagissey's heart, easy to spot as you wander down from the harbourside. Saint Peter's is a proper working parish church, not a museum piece, which means you'll find real life happening here - locals popping in, the occasional service, that specific smell of old stone and furniture polish that never quite leaves a building like this.

It's worth stepping inside if you're in the village anyway. The interior is stripped-back Cornish Methodist, all whitewashed walls and wooden pews, with some decent stained glass if you look up. The churchyard itself is the real draw - surrounded by old granite graves that lean at all angles, it's the kind of place that makes you think about how long people have been coming to this spot. On a quiet afternoon, especially in shoulder season, you could easily spend twenty minutes here without another soul around.

This isn't a destination in itself. But if you're staying at one of the nearby parks - Pentewan Sands is barely a mile away, Heligan Caravan just a bit further - then a morning stroll through Mevagissey village absolutely warrants a look inside. The harbour's the proper attraction here, with its fishing boats and fish restaurants, but the church gives you a sense of what the place actually is beyond the tourist seaside veneer. Free to enter, no set hours that I'm aware of, just push the door if it's not locked. Give it fifteen minutes, no more.
