The Park

The Park is a proper woodland walk just outside Stamford, the sort of place locals know about but tourists often miss. The forest itself is thick with oak and beech, with well-trodden paths that meander through without much fuss. You're looking at a solid hour or two of walking depending on which route you take, though nothing particularly strenuous.

It works best for people who actually enjoy a quiet forest ramble rather than a destination with attractions. There's no café, no visitor centre, no play equipment - just trees and the occasional clearing. That's either brilliant or boring depending on your view. Families with young kids might find it a bit sparse after thirty minutes, but walkers and photography types will get decent value. The paths are maintained enough that you won't wade through mud unless it's been hammering with rain.

Come outside peak summer weekends if you can. The place fills up then and loses some of its appeal. Early morning or late afternoon works particularly well. It costs nothing to access, which is refreshing.

If you're staying at one of the glamping spots nearby - The Nest is closest at just 1.7 miles - The Park makes a sensible morning outing before heading back for lunch. Ferry Meadows Caravan and Motorhome Club Campsite, a few miles further on, also has decent walking connections if you're after a longer stay. It's the sort of place that slots nicely into a broader Northamptonshire ramble rather than the main event.
