The Robert The Bruce Heritage center

The Robert the Bruce Heritage Centre sits just outside Renton, telling the story of Scotland's most famous warrior king through exhibits that actually bring medieval politics to life rather than drowning you in dusty plaques. You'll find weapons, armour, and documents charting Bruce's path from nobleman to outlaw to the man who won Scottish independence at Bannockburn. The centre does a solid job explaining why he mattered beyond just the Hollywood version - his manoeuvring between English and Scottish interests, his excommunication, the whole complicated business of medieval kingship.

History buffs will spend a good couple of hours here; families with younger kids might find it a bit text-heavy, though the physical artefacts keep things engaging. There's something rather moving about standing in front of actual items that belonged to Bruce, even if the presentation could be slicker. Allow an hour minimum, two if you're properly into medieval Scotland.
