The Shed Gallery

A converted farm building in rural Perthshire that punches well above its weight as an art space. The Shed Gallery, just outside Pitlochry, houses rotating contemporary work in what feels like someone's genuinely lived-in corner of the Highlands - all exposed beams, proper gallery lighting, and none of the sterile white-box pretension you'd get in Edinburgh.

The shows change regularly, so there's actual reason to return. Work tends toward Scottish artists and craftspeople - textiles, ceramics, painting, sculpture. You're looking at two to three rooms max, so budget 45 minutes unless you're the type to sit with every piece. The space itself is half the draw: intimate, approachable, the kind of place where you might actually chat to the artist if they're about.

It suits anyone who's had enough of overtouristed Pitlochry but still wants cultural substance. Not a destination in itself, but brilliant if you're staying at Tighnavon Glamping Pods or Kilvrecht Campsite nearby and fancy escaping the caravan for an hour. Kids under ten will get restless unless there's something interactive on.

Wednesday to Saturday 10:30-17:00, Sunday 11:00-16:00. Admission details aren't clear online, so phone ahead. Free parking outside. Worth the small detour from Pitlochry proper, especially on a grey afternoon when the main tourist trail feels exhausting.
