The Summit

The Summit is a modern church just outside Scarborough run by Kingdom Faith, and it's absolutely worth a stop if you're camping nearby at one of the caravan parks dotting this stretch of the Yorkshire coast. The building itself is contemporary - all clean lines and functional design - which might come as a surprise if you're expecting red brick and centuries of history. What you'll find instead is an active evangelical congregation with a proper community feel. Services are welcoming to visitors, and the space has that warm, inclusive atmosphere you get from churches that genuinely mean it when they say all are welcome. It's not a tourist attraction in the traditional sense - no gift shop, no audio guides - which is refreshing, actually. You're there to experience what's happening now rather than what happened three hundred years ago. The location's handy if you're based at Scarborough Camping and Caravanning Club or one of the Parkdean Resorts properties just down the road. Free admission, of course. If you're after something to do on a Sunday morning that doesn't involve theme parks or seafront arcades, this is a genuine alternative. Families are made welcome, and children's activities are usually on during services. Give it an hour, tops. The real draw is the authenticity - you're seeing an actual community at work, not a museum piece.
