The Texo Stadium

The Texo Stadium sits just outside Maldon, a proper working sports ground that's home to local football. It's not Wembley - far from it - but that's rather the point. This is grassroots football territory, the kind of place where you'll see genuine community passion on match days without the corporate nonsense.

What you get depends entirely on when you visit. Turn up on a match day and there's proper atmosphere, with locals filing in to watch their team play. The ground itself is modest but well-maintained, the sort of venue that's been a fixture in the area for years. Outside of fixtures, it's quieter obviously - you can walk past and see the pitch, but there's limited reason to linger unless you're genuinely interested in non-league football.

Family groups with football-mad kids will get the most from this if there's a match on the schedule. Check ahead though, as opening hours and admission aren't clearly advertised online. Maldon's a good base anyway - it's an old market town with proper character, worth exploring in its own right.

If you're staying at one of the nearby parks like Osea Leisure or Steeple Bay, the stadium makes an easy afternoon stop if there's a game on. Otherwise, file it under 'local knowledge' rather than must-see. The real draw around here is the riverside walks and coastal charm rather than the sports ground itself.
