The Willows

The Willows is a proper woodland walk tucked away near Milnthorpe, where you can lose an hour or two among the trees without fighting crowds. It's exactly what it says on the tin - a forest setting with willow trees dotting the landscape, the sort of place that feels removed from the world even though you're never far from civilization.

The walk itself is straightforward. You'll find paths threading through the woodland, nothing too demanding, which makes it ideal for families with younger kids or anyone wanting a gentle stroll rather than a proper hike. The canopy overhead is thick in summer, which means it stays reasonably cool and shaded - a genuine bonus if you're visiting during a warm spell. Historically minded visitors might find the setting interesting, though The Willows itself isn't a working heritage site. It's more a slice of Cumbrian woodland that's held its own against development.
