Thrang Brow

The walk up Thrang Brow from Milnthorpe is properly rewarding without being a slog. It's a modest fell by Lake District standards - nothing that demands specialist kit or a dawn start - but the views back down to the Kendal Valley and across toward Morecambe Bay make it worth an afternoon of your time. The approach is straightforward enough, and you'll cover it in under two hours at an easy pace.

This isn't a destination for peak-bagging completionists. What you get is a solid walk through real Lakeland landscape without the tourist crush of the bigger names. Families with older kids will manage it fine. Walkers after a proper leg-stretch rather than just a stroll will appreciate the climb. The fell itself is moorland underfoot with proper views at the top - the kind of spot where you'll actually want to stop and have a brew rather than snap a photo and move on.

Being just outside Milnthorpe, it slots neatly into a park holiday in the area. Fell End Holiday Park sits barely a mile away, making it accessible without much in the way of driving about. The surrounding parks - Holgates, Meathop Fell Caravan Club, Bay View - are all within easy striking distance if you fancy basing yourself here for a few days. It's not dramatic like the fells further up the lake, but that's rather the point. You come here for a genuine walk, not for Instagram.
