Tinkershill Wood

The woodland at Tinkershill, just outside Ludlow, is a proper walk rather than a destination in itself - and that's rather the point. You're looking at mixed forest with decent footpaths that wind through beech and oak, the sort of place where you can actually hear yourself think instead of fighting through Instagram crowds.

It's ideal for families who want to let the kids burn off energy without needing a visitor centre or cafe, and for walkers wanting a leg-stretcher between exploring Ludlow's medieval centre and the surrounding Herefordshire countryside. The woodland isn't dramatic - no rare viewpoints or geological formations - but it's tranquil, well-maintained, and free to access. You can knock out a decent hour's walk without much effort, or potter about for half the day if you're not in a hurry.

Given its proximity to Ludlow Touring & Holiday Home Park (barely a mile away), it works brilliantly as a morning walk before heading into town for lunch. The other parks - Westbrook, Monstay Farm, and Woodland Escapes - are all within striking distance, making it a solid addition to a park-based holiday in the area rather than a reason to visit in isolation.

Timing-wise, autumn's the best shout when the canopy's actually interesting to look at. Spring's decent too. Summer can feel a bit samey with everything in full leaf, and winter's muddy underfoot. Bring proper walking boots either way.
