Tinkler Bank

Tinkler Bank is a modest fell that rises above Milnthorpe in the southern Lake District, offering straightforward walking rather than spectacular drama. The summit sits at around 400 metres and rewards the climb with views across the Kent estuary towards Morecambe Bay - on a clear day you can see the fells properly lined up, though it's not the sort of vista that stops you in your tracks.

The walk itself is the thing here. It's accessible enough for confident family walkers, though the paths can be boggy and the gradient pushes on relentlessly once you commit to the ascent. Allow a couple of hours round trip from Milnthorpe. There's a real sense of leaving the populated world behind, even though you're only a short distance from the town.

This works best as part of a wider exploration of the area rather than a standalone trip. Based at Little Acre Holiday Park or Once Upon a Fell just down the road, you could combine Tinkler Bank with the gentler walks along the Kent estuary or push further into proper Lake District terrain at Kendal, which is only twenty minutes away. It's the sort of hill that locals know - unpretentious, quiet, and no crowds fighting for summit photos. Not essential, but if you're camping nearby and fancy a proper walk without the fuss of heading to the famous peaks, it does the job.
