The name alone suggests a proper boozer's hill, though Tippling Hill is actually a straightforward moorland walk near Harrogate that rewards you with decent views across North Yorkshire. Nothing dramatic - no dramatic peaks or fell-top drama - but it's the sort of walk that locals know and visitors often miss, which is precisely why it's worth doing.

The summit itself isn't particularly high or exposed, more of a gentle climb through rough grazing land with a few rocky outcrops for character. The real appeal is the sweep of countryside you get once you're up there. On a clear day you can pick out the vale below, and it's the kind of spot where you might actually be alone even in peak season. Allow an hour return, maybe ninety minutes if you're not rushing.

Walkers will appreciate this far more than casual park tourists. It's not a stroll - proper boots worth wearing - but it's accessible enough for reasonably fit families with older kids. Younger children might find the moorland a bit monotonous without the payoff of a dramatic summit or a café at the top.

If you're camped at Breaks Fold Farm Glamping or Olicana Park - both within four miles - this works nicely as a morning walk before heading into Harrogate proper. It's free, naturally, and requires no planning beyond checking the weather forecast. Worth fitting in if you're staying in the area, though not worth a special trip from further afield.
