Titanic Belfast

The Titanic Museum in Belfast hits you with scale the moment you walk in. Nine storeys wrapped around the old Harland and Wolff shipyard where the actual ship was built - that's not coincidence, that's the whole point. You're standing where the workers stood, looking at the same slipway where they launched a vessel that would sink in the Atlantic.

Inside, it's slick but not cheap-feeling. You move through galleries tracking the ship's construction, the voyage, the sinking, the aftermath. There's wreckage on display - actual pieces pulled from the ocean floor. The interactive bits work well without feeling gimmicky. You can walk the length of the ship marked out on the floor. You can see what third-class cabins actually looked like, which is rather grim.

The whole thing takes a good three to four hours if you're thorough. Families with kids over ten will get genuine value here - it's not just a tour, it's a proper museum with real artefacts and thoughtful curation. Younger children might find the scale and darkness a bit much. History enthusiasts will find themselves lingering over the personal stories - the letters, the photographs, the passenger lists.

Belfast city centre is walkable from there, which matters if you're based at Dundonald Touring Caravan Park or The Pods at Streamvale. Both are close enough for a day trip. Admission isn't free but it's honest pricing for what's on offer - you're not being fleeced. Go in the morning if you can. The crowds pile in by lunchtime.
