Todenham Plantation

Deep woodland separates you from the Cotswold noise here - Todenham Plantation sits just outside Moreton-in-Marsh and feels genuinely remote despite being minutes from town. It's a proper working forest rather than a manicured estate job, with mature trees creating decent shade and enough space to actually breathe without bumping into other visitors.

The main draw is straightforward walking. Paths cut through the trees with enough variety to keep things interesting - you're not trudging the same loop over and over. The undergrowth gets thick in places, so don't expect tidy boardwalks. Come autumn the floor is properly carpeted with leaves, which is either lovely or annoying depending on how much you like mud on your shoes.

Walkers will spend a solid hour or two here without feeling rushed. Families with younger kids might find it less gripping - there's no playground nonsense, just trees and paths, which some children find brilliant and others tedious after twenty minutes. If you've got teenagers or proper outdoor types, they'll enjoy it more.
